To get the most out of this training it is recommended to arrive already comfortable with the ability to takeoff and land in manual mode on a small drone. Nose in flight should also be mastered but we can help!

This class is 8 hours long, at Freefly, and includes Ground School and Flight Training.

Flight Training

After Ground School, we’ll head out to the field to get some time in the air with Astro (you can bring your own Astro, or use one of ours). Topics covered in the field will include:

Confirm pilot is comfortable with basic takeoff and landings

Confirm pilot understands available methods to monitor flight pack voltage and when to land

Where is Freefly located?

We host training at our headquarters in scenic Woodinville, WA. Let us know if you need help with directions.

When do I need to be there?

Class sessions run 9am-5pm on the day or days of your class (with an hour or so break for lunch at mid-day), so arriving promptly ensures the maximum time spent with our instructors.

We recommend flying in the day before, as Seattle traffic can cause unexpected delays.

Which airport is best?

There are a couple airports with easy access to Woodinville:

Seatac International Airport (SEA) is the closest major airport to Freefly.

  • Full selection of rental car options

  • Served by many major airlines

  • 40-75 minutes travel to Freefly

Paine Field (PAE) is recently opened and is also near Freefly

  • Avis, Budget and Enterprise

  • Limited to Alaska and United flights

  • 30-50 minutes travel to Freefly

There are also many AirBnb hosts in Woodinville and surrounding areas (Bothell, Totem Lake, Redmond, Kirkland and Kenmore).

What should I bring?

  • Your Astro: If you have an Astro and want to fly it during the class, bring it! Unless you’ve changed your battery connectors, you don’t need to bring flight packs; just your Astro, radio and FPV gear (if you want to set up and use OSD).

  • A laptop: Great for QGroundControl mission planning or taking notes.
